Meet Our Team
Garth Shinn
Garth Shinn, CFP® founded aLuman (originally Illuminate Financial), a Registered Investment Adviser, in Santa Barbara, California, and now resides in Portland Oregon. aLuman exists to realize the dream of creating health in family, friends, career, and community. In his 30+ year career in financial services, Garth has learned to listen and identify what is meaningful to clients, then provide insight in decision making along with research, analysis, prioritization and implementation of a financial plan and investment strategy that is ideal for each client.
One of my hopes in creating aLuman is to be able to serve a select number of clients and families on a deep level, for a very long time. I value connecting with people and creating an environment where they can think deeply about what is most important to them. There is a moment when someone is first able to bring clarity and language to their dreams...almost as if a light has been turned on in a dark room. I love leading people through that process then seeing the peace and rest they experience!
Keaton Shinn
Keaton Shinn, candidate for CFP® certification, joined Garth at aLuman after graduating with a degree in neuroscience from Bethel University. His curiosity in financial planning sparked after learning more about the intersection of finance and human behavior, known at behavioral finance. Now, Keaton resides in Saint Paul with his wife Kate and works at aLuman to create health in family, friends, career, and community through financial plans backed by research and informed by clients’ goals.
My hope in working with our clients is to be a trusted source of information, provide meaningful insights, and help create financial wellbeing for our clients. My professional interests include tackling student debt, planning for changing life stages, and the role behavior plays in our financial decision making. It’s incredibly rewarding to walk alongside clients as they illuminate their financial plans!
Kate Shinn
Kate Shinn joined aLuman in 2024 as the Minister of Communication and Fun. Her background in secondary English education and interests in communication and graphic arts allow her to support aLuman’s efforts in new ways. Outside of her role at aLuman, Kate enjoys being a full time mom.
I’m so grateful to serve aLuman clients and families in my role as Minister of Communication and Fun! I have a growing interest in making financial systems, terms, and strategies more accessible to more people through the use of graphic arts. Additionally, I love being able to celebrate and support clients’ milestones, accomplishments, and changing life stages.
